What are Isochronic Tones?

Updated: Apr 20, 2022

Using isochronic tones (or isochronous sounds or isochronic beats) is a great way to access various states of consciousness and explore your full potential by synchronizing brain waves to their pulse frequency, measured in Hertz (Hz). Although isochronic tones are not yet as well known as binaural beats, they have the same effect, they are more powerful and are becoming more and more popular.

Isochronic tones are crisp, regular pulses of sound created by activating and deactivating a note or tone at a regular rate (frequency in Hertz) of varying speed.

Isochronic tones reproduce the principle of the beat of the shamanic drum. It is a rhythm precisely calculated to induce waves (Gamma, Beta, Alpha, Theta, Delta, Epsilon) in the brain.

Unlike binaural beats which require headphones to listen, isochronic sounds can be heard directly through speakers.

Isochronic tones are used in the process of brain wave entrainment. Brain wave entrainment refers to a method of getting brain waves to sync with a specific stimulus. This stimulus is typically an audio or visual pattern.

Isochronic tones are regular beats of a single tone that are used alongside monaural beats and binaural beats in the process called brainwave entrainment. At its simplest level, an isochronic tone is a tone that is being turned on and off rapidly. They create sharp, distinctive pulses of sound.

Isochronic tones are a fast and effective audio-based way to stimulate your brain. Among many of the benefits, they can help improve focus, relaxation, energy levels, sleep and more, without taking drugs or needing any special equipment.

What isochronic tones essentially do, is guide your dominant brainwave activity to a different frequency while you are listening to them, allowing you to influence and change your mental state and how you feel.

Stress or Anxiety Relief – When you are feeling stressed, agitated, anxious or angry your brain will usually be producing an increased amount of high beta activity. Low beta or alpha frequency isochronic tones will help to lower your dominant frequency, reducing feelings of stress or anxiety.

Meditation and Relaxation – Sometimes it can be hard to really relax properly, and it can be even more difficult to reach a deeper state of meditation, especially for those new to meditation. Using low alpha and theta frequencies will help guide your brain to these deeply relaxing and sometimes enlightening mental states.

Increase Focus, Cognition and Memory – When it's time to study or work, our brain isn't always firing on all cylinders and ready to focus. If you are feeling tired, unmotivated and distracted, isochronic tones in the beta range will elevate your brainwaves up to a more optimal high focused state, and keep your mind there for the duration.

Isochronic tones are single tones that come on and off at regular, evenly spaced intervals. This interval is typically brief, creating a beat that’s like a rhythmic pulse. They’re often embedded in other sounds, such as music or nature sounds.

Isochronic tones are used for brain wave entrainment, in which your brain waves are made to sync with the frequency that you’re listening to. It’s believed that syncing your brain waves to a certain frequency might be able to induce various mental states.

Brain waves are produced by electrical activity in the brain. They can be measured using a technique called an electroencephalogram (EEG).

Isochronic tones (or beats)

These are sharp, steady pulses of sound created by turning a single tone on and off at a high speed.

Technically, isochronous tones are equal in intensity, but the pulse speed is greater than monaural tones, causing the brain to synchronize with the rhythm more quickly.

Isochronic tones mimic the principle of drumming. It is a rhythm precisely calculated to induce waves in the brain (Gamma, Beta, Alpha, Theta, Delta...).
